crab & courgette linguine

today we ate lunch in the garden, for the first time this year, which was absolutely blissful. our spring bulbs are out - yellow and white narcissus, snow drops, muscari, fritilaria - the cherry blossom tree has started to flower and the sun was shining.

it was a simple meal of crab and courgette linguine with a watercress salad. while the pasta cooked i grated a courgette and, wrapping it in a clean tea towel, wrung out the excess liquid. the grated courgette and a small tin of white crab meat were mixed with some olive oil, juice and zest of a lemon, some dried chilli, salt and pepper before being mixed with the hot pasta. i made a simple dressing for the salad - olive oil, lemon juice and dijon mustard.

spaghetti with crab and watercress

as i’ve mentioned before, twice, crab linguine is a regular standby supper for me – the tinned white crab meat that you can buy is very good and, with some lemon juice and zest, raw chilli and garlic plus olive oil added you end up with something very tasty. i usually add watercress to the mix too, although if you can’t get it rocket is a good alternative.

the dish above, and its matching pair for david, was made with my standard recipe (the links above are for two variations on the theme) one tin of white crab meat, juice and zest of half a lemon, one small but potent chilli from our chilli plant, a crushed clove of garlic, handful of shredded watercress and glug of olive oil. plus spaghetti as we were out of linguine. the perfect easy supper.

i'm sharing this plate of pasta with haalo of cook (almost) anything who is hosting this month's presto pasta nights.

dressed crab linguine

crab linguine is a much-loved dish for both david and i. it’s very quick to make and, if we use the tins of white crab meat which are easily available at most supermarkets, it is a great store cupboard supper.

the meal above was a variation on our usual recipe as i used dressed crab. this completely changed the dish, with the brown meat adding a lovely richness and depth of flavour – i used this to dress the linguine and then topped it with the white crab meat. i also sprinkled it with some of the herb powder i made for last month’s daring cooks challenge of fish with powders.

daring cooks: crab potstickers

time has been flying past at an amazing speed. so fast that i’ve only just managed to complete this month’s daring cooks challenge – chinese dumplings, as chosen by jen from use real butter (jen’s blog is fabulous and well worth a visit if you haven’t seen it already!).

i’ve made dumplings before but have not made my own dumpling wrappers which was the main focus of this challenge.

so, how did i get on?

crab and cherry tomato linguine

crab linguine is a favourite easy supper chez moi. i usually use tinned white crab meat which is makes the dish both affordable and a storecupboard option., i also think it’s a good tinned fish option – i buy sainsbury’s own which is, i think, very nice.

i’m actually amazed i haven’t blogged about this before given how often i make it (and how easy it is!). and the irony is that the crab linguine above isn’t even my usual recipe. it was delicious though so i’ll share it with both you and theresa at the food hunter’s guide to cuisine, as she is hosting this week’s presto pasta nights.
