sardines and sunshine

london has had a few unexpectedly warm days and i’ve been taking full advantage, sitting out for my breakfast and lunch whenever possible (the evenings are still a bit nippy). i’ve also been thinking about summery food and making the most of these latent dog days.

i had ordered sardines from foodari this week and ate them, sitting in the sunshine. they were griddled over quite a high heat (brush them with olive oil and season before putting in the pan – if you wait 3-4 minutes before turning them the skin doesn’t stick and will be nice and crispy) and served with a dressing of parsley, capers, lemon juice, cider vinegar and olive oil. oh so simple, oh so good.
